CALAMITY STRIKES: WHAT TO DO

Panic and Blame - Major causes of self-destruction

Instead of being a burden to yourself and others, keep a steady heart and a calm mind and think of ways to make use of your time especially if you are not the one in trouble, either volunteer or just help in any way you can.

IF YOU ARE IN A SAFE PLACE, SECURE THE FOLLOWING:

Keep them close-by and ready in case of emergency:

1. Candles and Matches
2. Blankets and Jackets
3. Flashlights, Emergency Lights
4. Fully charged mobile phone/s
5. Emergency bag - clothes, easy-to-eat food, other essentials (avoid overpacking, the emergency bag won't serve the purpose if you're bringing your whole house!)
6. Medicines including rubbing alcohol for infections

Rescue teams from the Red Cross are asking for people to place a white or anything close to it on their roofs or areas that are visible for rescuers to be able to reach them.

STILL HAVE NET ACCESS?

STAY INDOORS!
Unless you are an experienced and able volunteer, do not attempt to go out and place yourself in harm's way.

RELIEF OPERATIONS:
While waiting, you can spend time and check your personal belongings for things you may be able to give out.

Last 2009, we volunteered for the Red Cross, it took us so much time to weed through the usable donations.

MAKE YOUR DONATIONS COUNT!

- Donate easy-to-eat food, they have minimal resources to cook and prepare (biscuits, bread, easy to open canned goods with ready to eat content, etc.)

- WATER - purified or distilled drinking water they can drink

- Donate clothing that can be used (don't donate gowns, costumes, or ragged clothes)

- You can also donate shoes/footwear/slippers (don't donate high heels or fancy footwear they can't use immediately)

- Blankets, sleeping bags, comforters - can be of great help in evacuation centres

- Basic toiletries - Soap, Shampoo, Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Diapers and Sanitary Pads

- You may be eager to help, check first if the drop-off centre nearest your area is a safe way to and from home, if not, WAIT, it takes time but your donations are better usable than soiled

Hope this post helps.

Praying that the rain stops and that victims of this calamity will be able to rise up easily, with our help, for sure they can.
